My Marathon Challenge - 3rd of May 2010

Dear all,

I have decided to enter this year's Belfast City Marathon Walk (26.2miles) in order to raise money in honour of my late brother - David McIlwaine who died February 2000. The money will go to the British Irish Rights Watch, an organisation that have helped my family fight injustice over the past 8 years.

I have managed to get a couple of friends to do the walk with me as well as my dearest mum. Now that I have my sidekicks to keep me company, it's time to train.

Over the past few weeks I have been walking regularly with my mum and 2 nights a week with my friends, we have built ourselves up to 6miles so far. We are aiming to go for smaller walks during the week and one long walk at the weekends. Hopefully that will be a good platform for when it comes to walking on the day.

I would be very grateful for your support

Many Thanks

Susie

I have raised £80 so far since this page went up!

My Marathon Challenge - Update 18.02.10

Walking has been pretty consistent the past 2 weeks - I tend to walk in the evenings as that is when my friends and I are free. Trying to find a good long route in a lit up area is difficult, so weekends are the best time to get a good long walk in the daylight.
I have been trying to get my fitness level up, so as well as walking, my mum and I have been using the wii active workout programme.
It is my brother's 10 year anniversary on Friday the 19th of February, so it will be an emotional few days for my family.

Thanks for all your support.

Susie

Update from 11.02.10

Last week my friends and I walked during the week.
My friend Laura takes her boxer dog, Tia, every time we walk. So my friend Susanne decided to bring her little shitzu Lucy this time as well.
This was disastrous from the word go! Both dogs weren't used to each other for a start, so they both went nuts, pulling on the leads and going in every direction.
We had aimed to walk a good 6 miles or so, however, Lucy's little legs weren't cut out for such a trek!
Our walk became roughly 3 miles in the rain, with Lucy being carried most of the way.
Let's just say Lucy won't be doing the marathon!

Many Thanks

Susie
