Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF) leader Billy Wright was killed inside the Maze prison on 27 December 1997. He was shot by prisoners from the Irish National Liberation Army as he was being transported from his cell to the prison visiting area in a prison van. There are many disturbing aspects to this murder, which raise serious questions about potential state collusion in the case. BIRW has worked closely with Billy Wright’s family to bring about a full, independent public inquiry to investigate allegations of collusion involving the prison and security services.
