NORTHERN IRELAND EUROPEAN ELECTION RESULTS 2009
Northern Ireland elects three Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) using the system of proportional representation known as the Single Transferable Vote.

488,891 people voted out of an electorate of 1,141,979, a turnout of 43%.
The DUP had previously topped the poll in every European election since 1979. This year, they were beaten into third place, attracting only 18.2% of the vote, compared to 32% at the last election in 2004.
