In May 2003 we were sad to record the 200th death in Northern Ireland related to the conflict there since the first ceasefires of 1994. Many people do not realise that the death toll has been so high. Every death is one death too many and we regret each and every one of them and sympathise with the pain of their loved ones.
Those who are concerned about the situation in Northern Ireland need objective factual information about what is happening there, and we have decided to make the results of our research available on our website. If, as we ruefully anticipate, there are further deaths we will update this information.
We would like to thanks Jana Rumminger for her help in compiling this information. We have made every effort to be accurate, but it is not always easy to decide whether a death is conflict-related or not, and there are often conflicting media reports and claims and counter claims. If we have inadvertently offended anyone by the inclusion of inaccurate information, we sincerely apologise.
